Kate on Youtube for Ottawa Chapters Rideau Book Club

1 March 2010

The Chapters Rideau store in Ottawa featured ‘The Mistress of Nothing’ in their book club recently; I recorded this video for them in response to a few questions they sent me via e-mail.  There’s an entry on their blog about the event.  They graciously invited me to attend; I was in Canada at the time, but several thousand miles away in Calgary.  But they managed without me!

Mistress of Nothing

3 February 2010

The Mistress of Nothing, Kate Pullinger’s 2009 novel, has won the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction.  This prestigious prize was set up in 1936 by the novelist John Buchan, otherwise known as Lord Tweedsmuir of Elsfield, Governor General of Canada.  Previous winners include a tremendous roll-call of Canadian writers from Mordecai Richler and Leonard Cohen to Margaret Atwood and Alice Munro.

The Mistress of Nothing was also long-listed for the Giller Prize.

CBC Radio will be broadcasting and podcasting a single-voice reading of the book later this year.

The Mistress of Nothing is published in Canada by McArthur & Company, at $24.95, and in the UK by Serpent’s Tail, at £10.99.  It will be published by Touchstone/Fireside, Simon & Schuster, in the US in January 2011, and translations into Dutch and German will follow later that year.
